  I think the Hulk was never meant to be realistic. Gamma rays can make you pretty ill though (radiation poisining)

  A high dose of gamma rays can make you very sick, but fortunately it’s quite difficult to get a high dose. I think the Hulk was never really meant to be too realistic.
