      Their wings have to move really fast to let them fly.
      The sound comes from the fast moving air – remember that sound is just vibrations in the air.

      Covered well by Tim – mosquitos have little fast moving wings (high frequency – high pitch) compared to bumble bees, whose wings move more slowly (lower frequency/pitch).
