0 Question: Why do camels have humps? This question has always baffled me Keywords: animal, camel, hump Asked by camel12 to Mike, Pip, Tianfu, Tim, Tom on 26 Jun 2012.
Tom Lister answered on 26 Jun 2012:
Humps are full of fat, so it’s like having a huge belly (only a belly would drag along the floor). That means they can eat loads and then walk for days or weeks before eating again.
Tim Stephens answered on 26 Jun 2012:
Yep. Wikipedia’s ace.
Philippa Bird answered on 26 Jun 2012:
I thought also if they get really dehydrated the fat can be broken down and water is released? Have not checked wikipedia for this :-p
