Well, in cave times they weren’t. We are programmed to have a pleasure response to sweet and fatty things because in the old days when food was scarce it was crucial that we stocked up on high calorie foods in case it was a long time before we had that opportunity again. Unfortunately, now there is a huge abundant on sweet and fatty “nice” foods so there is no longer a need to eat as much of it as possible, but we have not lost that programming.
      Annoying, huh?

There are lots of nice food that are good for you too, but as Pip said, it wasn’t a necessary part of our evolution to avoid overloading on these particular foods.
