Some of the best things that I’ve done have been when I’ve visited other people’s laboratories.
For example, I did some work in Montreal in December a couple of years ago to measure a system that sprayed ice into a test jet engine (to simulate flying through clouds). It was -25C, and we rigged up our equipment in front of a giant jet engine, and then ran it up to full speed. The whole building was shaking – it was sooo cool!

My favourite memories are making changes to the treatments we do which have a huge effect on how well they work. A few patients have been coming to us for 10 years or more and I have suggested a new approach that suddenly works. It makes such a huge difference for them, it can be really rewarding!

My worst experience? Probably late nights working on x-ray machine to check they are doing what they are supposed to – perhaps that’s one reason I don’t work with them any more!
