      yes. One big this we look for in people is Rhesus positive or negative (you may be O+ or O- A+, AB- etc) The plus or minus signs literally corresponds to whether you have a particular protein which sits on your red blood cells and which also happens to do the same things in Rhesus monkeys (I presume they found it there first). You actually have lots and lots of these proteins, but nobody seems to know what most of them do.
