      Yes! Lightning is just a great big spark. You can create sparks at a much smaller scale by rubbing a balloon against your hair, which creates a static charge on the balloon. Some laboratories have large machines that work on the same principle (like a Van de Graaf generator, that you might see at school) to make gigantic sparks.
