Question: Our science teacher said that if yoiu chop of the top of your head that means that you cant even feel it, and thyey dont even need to sedate you?
I’ve heard of people having brain surgery to cure things like personality disorders (at least, I think it was for personality disorder) whilst being wide awake.
The surgeons kept them awake so that they could ask the patient questions whilst they were working (to know whether they were doing the right thing). I think that’s properly amazing.
I mis-read the question, I thought you said if you chop somebody’s head off, not just the top of their head!
Tim’s right, I have heard that early research into brain surgery involved cutting bits out whilst asking the person to do different things, and also connecting electrodes onto their brain (I don’t think this was very ethical by the way).
Your brain doesn’t ever feel pain, or even touch, so there would be no need for anaesthetic (apart from when you are cutting open the scalp)
